Giving Without Applause
Posted 11/20/2009
Students and teachers at the Kolarik 9th Grade Center have been engaged in a fierce competition to see which social studies class could collect the most items and money to donate to the North Channel Assistance Ministries (NCAM). After carefully calculating the results, Mr. Lepeuch's 3rd period class came out on top and won by a landslide. The competition was a fun way to get everyone involved, but everyone who participated was a winner since the cause is what truly mattered. The North Channel Assistance Ministries is a local organization that provides assistance to local families. This time of year presents challenges for many who are less fortunate and the students at Kolarik were glad to do their part to help. Charles, a student in Mr. Lepeuch's winning class, said that it was good to know what they all did can actually help people.
More than 30 boxes of food were stacked in the front office of the school waiting to be picked up by NCAM, and more than $300 were raised in addition to the food collected. It has often been said that a little can go a long way, and that saying was never more true. For every dollar raised NCAM is able to buy ten pounds of food from the Houston Food Bank to help fill their pantry for local families in need. That means that the money collected by the students and staff at the Kolarik Center will help buy more than 3,000 pounds of food!
Everyone who participated deserves applause, even though they did not ask for it. Mr. Lepeuch's winning class is pictured with the items collected by the school. Happy Thanksgiving!
