CEOP
Background Information
- In January 2006, Channelview Independent School District began providing opportunity for paraprofessionals to participate in Staff Training for Effective Management (STEM) through the Texas Educational Support Staff Association (TESA).
- TESA is the only professional organization in the state for support staff personnel.
- TESA developed the STEM program in cooperation with the Texas Education Agency, Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Texas Public Community/Junior College Association, University of Texas, and other professional educational associations.
- STEM is a professional development program designed for educational support personnel to gain and/or enhance technical and job-specific skills providing a foundation for progressing towards CEOP (Certified Educational Office Professionals) certification.
- Upon completion of the required and self-directed courses totaling sixty clock-hours, participants become CEOP and participate in a graduation ceremony at a TESA Work Conference.
CISD Opportunities
- The district has recommended and received board approval to continue providing the CEOP certification program for support staff personnel through the District Improvement Plan.
- The program currently provides funding for courses and work conferences for 15 support staff employees each school year.
- The professional and personal benefits of stimulating professional growth have already begun to surface.
