Student of the MonthApril's Student of the Month

Sebastian Rodriquez was chosen as April's student of the month for Schochler Primary School.  She was awarded a certificate while attending a luncheon at the Administration Building.

Schochler Safety Patrol

The Schochler Primary School Safety Patrol consists of 36 third grade boys and girls. It has been established to recognize those students who possess and demonstrate positive leadership skills, personal responsibility, and good academic skills. The goal of the safety patrol is to allow its members to explore and develop important skills such as responsibility, dependability, assertiveness, cooperation and provide students with the opportunity to assume leadership roles within the school. Safety patrol members provide a valuable resource by serving as role models and helping to maintain a safe and orderly environment.

During morning arrival, patrols assist by monitoring hallways, sidewalks, and in directing car riders. They will also have the opportunity to provide assistance during school assemblies and parental involvement functions. Schochler students are expected to obey the patrols. Each patrol serves a one week duty during each six week grading period. The commitment and leadership shown by the patrollers as well as the cooperation of their parents is appreciated by the Schochler staff.

This year’s patrols were selected on the basis of achievement, responsibility, cooperation and demonstration of leadership skills. The concept for this program was developed over the summer which did not allow for a more formal implementation process. There will be a swearing-in ceremony for all new patrols at the end the first six weeks. In the future, the process will allow for teacher nominations of students that will be enrolled in third grade for the following school year. These students will be selected during the last grading period of their second grade year and will be trained by the current safety patrol members in May. New patrols will be sworn-in at a ceremony in August.

Schochler would like to thank those adults who are patient and supportive of the Safety Patrol. Mornings are a busy time and this new system may require a few extra minutes. Patrols do not operate after 7:40 a.m. They will also not report for duty during extreme weather conditions.

The concept of creating a safety patrol and the coordination of the program are the responsibility of Schochler’s assistant principal, Mrs. Ann Marie Garza.
